Xiulan means “elegant orchid” in Chinese. Xiulan Shih-Tzu was created to educate others about the elegance of the breed known as Shih-Tzu, originally a Chinese temple dog bred to beautify the surroundings of the Chinese temple. The quiet nature and loving personality of the Shih-Tzu breed matches the serenity of the place they were meant to adorn.
The owner of Xiulan Shih-Tzu is a small hobby breeder of Shih-Tzu puppies who lives full time in Morristown, Tennessee. Please feel free to contact Xiulan Shih-Tzu anytime you have a question about available puppies or just wish to chat about this wonderful world of Shih-Tzu.
It is the mission of Xiulan-Shih-Tzu to provide high quality, well-socialized, and healthy Shih-Tzu puppies to people who want to own a Shih-Tzu puppy. These Shih-Tzu puppies have been well bred within the confines of a small in-home hobby breeding location. Xiulan Shih-Tzu puppies exemplify the breed standard in many ways, such as, a quiet nature, calm disposition, and sweet personality.
Xiulan Shih-Tzu specializes in breeding the Imperial size Shih-Tzu puppy of under nine pounds. Xiulan Shih-Tzu puppies make wonderful family pets, get along well with children, other animals, and are also great for the elderly.
Much time is spent in the preparation of a Xiulan Shih-Tzu puppy for the transition from the birth home to the adoption home. First and foremost, the sire and dam are carefully selected based on pedigree and attributes. Each adult dog at Xiulan Shih-Tzu must illustrate the following characteristics for a Xiulan Shih-Tzu breeding to take place:
- Xiulan Shih-Tzu adults must have temperaments that are sweet, loving, affectionate, and good-natured
- Xiulan Shih-Tzu adults must be in excellent health. Sires must be genetically tested.
- Xiulan Shih-Tzu adult dogs must get along well with all humans, other dogs, and puppies in the home.
- Xiulan Shih-Tzu adult dogs must have no negative personality traits that may be passed along to Shih-Tzu puppies.
- Xiulan Shih-Tzu adult dogs must have strong pedigrees from prominent, responsible, and well-known Shih-Tzu breeders.
- Xiulan Shih-Tzu adult dogs must be fully certified with the American Kennel Club.
- Xiulan Shih-Tzu adult dogs must be well-behaved.
During the breeding process, the Xiulan Shih-Tzu breeder is there to oversee the mating. Breedings take place within the home of the Family, not in kennels and certainly never outdoors.
After a mating takes place, the Shih-Tzu mother is immediately monitored for good health. Procedures are in place to provide good nutrition for the developing Shih-Tzu puppies. Mothers are vet checked regularly.
Whelping of the Shih-Tzu puppies takes place within the Family’s home, usually in the family room under the supervision of the Family. Puppies reside within the Family’s home for the duration of their upbringing. Since puppies reside in the center of the activity in the home, they are constantly monitored and appropriately socialized.
At eight weeks or later, Xiulan Shih-Tzu puppies are vet checked and given their first set of puppy shots. Between eight and twelve weeks of age, Xiulan Shih-Tzu puppies may be adopted by their “forever parents”. It is up to the breeder at Xiulan Shih-Tzu to decide at what age a Xiulan Shih-Tzu puppy leaves the Xiulan Shih-Tzu home. A one-year limited health guarantee on the Xiulan Shih-Tzu puppy is provided to all adoptive parents along with the AKC limited registration paperwork and medical documentation. At the discretion of the Xiulan Shih-Tzu Family, full AKC registration paperwork may be provided to an adoptive family.
